[Custom order for K.]
I can’t begin to describe how lovely this baby blanket is. It’s absolutely the squashiest, drapiest, silkiest, softest, stretchiest blanket I’ve ever made. I’m going to have a problem topping this. I might even have a problem letting it go!
These admirable qualities are largely the responsibility of the luxury yarn I used. A combination of two very similar types of yarn are included, both composed of bamboo and silk fibers. Bamboo is noted for its silky drape and antimicrobial properties. It’s my favorite fiber to work with (superwash wool being a close second). Luxury doesn’t come cheaply, however, and there are at least 7 skeins of yarn in this blanket, bringing the price of materials alone to nearly $50.
This blanket is also very heavy for its size, giving that extremely comforting weight that helps babies sleep. The garter stitch knit is both dense (protecting tiny fingers and toes from getting trapped) and very squishy. Fold this blanket in two and your baby will think he’s on a mattress! Just for fun, I knit this blanket in random stripes in a mitered square. I like the eye-catching color combinations while the overall color scheme is very calm.
This blanket is just the right size to wrap a baby with room to spare and then graduate into a favorite “blankie”. You don’t have to worry about care because it can be tossed into the washer and dryer.
Dimensions: 28 inches square when unstretched and laid flat
Care: Machine wash with like colors on warm, tumble dry low. I strongly suggest you not hang it to dry unless you have a preference for extremely stretched out blankets. No bleach, no iron.
