This is a one-of-a-kind Orthodox monk waldorf-style doll. He is dressed in a black cassock with monastic belt, skufia, and sweater vest. He also carries a small 33 knot prayer rope.
His head and body are constructed in the waldorf-style (filled and sculpted with tightly wound wool*). The face and upper body are made of cream-colored cotton knit and his lower body is made of black cotton knit (to take the place of trousers). His beard and hair were crocheted with acrylic yarn and stitched in place.
His removable Russian-style soft skufia is made of black cotton knit and has a small three-bar-cross embroidered in red on the front. His cassock is made of the same cotton knit fabric. It is removable and closes at the neck with Velcro. The belt is made of felt, stitched for strength and decoration, and closes with Velcro. He wears a removable sweater vest, hand knit from black acrylic yarn using my original pattern. It closes with four functional buttons and has a tiny pocket.
The prayer rope is made from a single strand of black yarn and tied with simple knots (not traditional knots). It may be removed and put away for a time if there is a concern about a young child choking on it.
While the cassock, skufia, and sweater are completely washable, I recommend spot cleaning the doll itself as needed, and hand-washing if absolutely necessary. Use cool water and do not wring or scrub. There are several good sites online giving explicit directions for cleaning Waldorf dolls and I recommend consulting them if you feel you need to wash him.
Doll: 13 inches tall
*This Doll was stuffed with hand-washed-and-carded 100% Shetland wool from The Tulip Patch [TheTulipPatch.etsy.com]. The wool is from Shetland sheep on an Oregon farm. Not all of the lanolin has been removed so you will smell it if you hold the doll to your face. It is not an unpleasant smell, just one you may not be familiar with.
