Description
This is a unique Orthodox monk Waldorf-style doll. The black cassock and skufia is stitched down and not designed to be removed. There are no small parts and he is made entirely with 100% cotton knit and wool.
The head and body is constructed in the Waldorf-style (filled and sculpted with tightly wound wool). The face and hands are made of blush-colored cotton knit. The facial features are embroidered. The body is made of black cotton knit.
The cassock is made of black knit. It is free from the hem to the neck and tightly sewn to the body at the neck and arm openings. A black wool felt monastic “belt” is securely stitched in place. A knotted “prayer rope” is fastened to hang from the belt. He also has a gold crocheted cross which has been stitched down at the neck.
The hair is crocheted from mohair yarn and brushed to look like natural hair. He has a ponytail which is not designed to be undone. Be aware that mohair has fibers which can come off in a baby’s mouth if he chews on it so this is best for toddlers and children who are past that stage.
I recommend spot cleaning the doll itself as needed, and hand-washing if necessary. Use cool water and do not wring or scrub. There are several good sites online giving explicit directions for cleaning Waldorf dolls and I recommend consulting them if you feel you need to wash him.
