This is a custom order for an Orthodox hieromonk/abbot doll, made to resemble photographs. This includes a full set of white vestments. An adjustable doll stand is included.
His head and body are constructed in the Waldorf style (filled and sculpted with tightly wound 100% wool batting). His head is needle-felted to create features resembling photographs provided. The face and hands are covered with peach-colored cotton knit (especially manufactured for making dolls). His body is black cotton knit. His hair and beard were crocheted with brushable mohair yarn and stitched in place. It may be combed gently with a small comb. The eyes were embroidered with embroidery floss.
His Russian-style cassock is made from black wool-blend fabric used for making full-size cassocks. It is removable and closes in the front with buttons and two patches of Velcro. His monastic belt is sewn from black wool felt and closes with Velcro. His wide-sleeved riassa is made from cotton and closes at the neck with one button.
His klobuk is made from thin black knit over a firm skufia form. By request he also has a black baseball cap made from wool felt.
He wears a gold pectoral cross made from stiffened cotton crochet thread and gold jewelry findings.
His full set of white vestments includes a cotton sticharion, high-back phelonion, epitrachelion, belt, and cuffs. The damask is actual liturgical fabric and everything is lined with white satin. Some of the trim is liturgical galloon and some is made of various ribbon and trims. The high back of the phelonion is stiffened with heavy-weight interfacing so it stands up. The sticharion buttons at the neck, is open at the sides near the waist, and has ties attached to the wrists. The cuffs have sewn-in gold rings and cord to fit the wrists and function exactly as the full-size ones do. The top button of the epitrachelion is only attached on one side to ease putting it on over the head.
The doll and all of his clothing and accessories are my original designs.
This doll will ship USPS Priority mail with insurance equal to the value of the doll. The cost of insurance is included in the price of the doll.
Height: 18 inches
**Not intended for unsupervised play by children under age 4. Caution: small parts**
Care: I recommend spot cleaning the doll itself as needed, and hand-washing if absolutely necessary. Soak in cool water using a small amount of gentle detergent or baby wash. Gently squeeze out excess water; do not wring or scrub. Lay on a towel to dry for one or more days depending on humidity. There are several good sites online giving explicit directions for cleaning Waldorf dolls and I recommend consulting them if you feel you need to wash him.
The clothing and should likewise be handwashed or washed on the gentle cycle in a mesh bag to prevent loss of small pieces. Lay flat or hang to dry. Do not use bleach. Careful ironing as needed.
