These soft dolls are for the youngest little ones. They’re crafted from cotton knit and stuffed with sheep’s wool which is traditional for Waldorf-type toys. Each doll is approximately 5 to 7 inches high, just right for little hands. Equal parts machine and hand-sewing. These are a good size to tuck in the diaper bag and bring out for church, and they’re quiet too!
The monk dolls have flat sleeves and hands, the right hand stitched down to the stomach and holding a knitted ribbon “prayer rope.” The left arm is free. A tiny red cross is embroidered on the front of the doll’s veil. They are available in four skin tones: brown, tan, peach, and blush (see photos*). The cotton knit for the skin is manufactured especially for dolls and resists pilling. The side seams are triple stitched for durability. The beards are cut from upcycled wool (usually cashmere) sweaters and stitched down onto the face. There is a choice of four colors: brown, grey, oatmeal, and white (see photos). If you have a preference for the thinner 7 inch dolls or the wider 5-6 inch dolls, let me know when you order. Otherwise I will choose for you.
Several ribbon loops are stitched into the bottom seam of the doll. If you have a color preference (i.e. “primary”, “pastel”, “greens”, etc.) let me know in the comments. Otherwise I will choose for you.
Care: Hand wash with a very small amount of a mild detergent in cool water. Gently squish the doll in the water without rubbing or wringing. Rinse thoroughly in the same way. Gently press out as much water as possible, then roll in a towel and press out additional water. Lay flat to dry. Do not machine wash or use heat as the wool stuffing will felt which will cause the doll to harden and lose shape. Wool has natural antimicrobial properties and will resist mildew and bacteria.
