Description
This is a one-of-a-kind, Orthodox monk doll. He is dressed in a black cassock with monastic belt and wears a soft skufia.
His head and body are constructed in the Waldorf style (filled and sculpted with tightly wound 100% wool batting). The face and hands are covered with blush-colored cotton knit (especially manufactured for making dolls). His body is black cotton knit. His grey hair and beard were crocheted with brushable mohair yarn and stitched in place. His hair also includes individually knitted longer strands of hair. It may be combed gently with a small comb.
His cassock is made from black wool-blend fabric used for making full-size cassocks. It is removable and closes in the front with two patches of Velcro. His monastic belt is three layers of black felt with five rows of stitching. It closes with Velcro.
His soft skufia is made from thin black knit and has a red cross embroidered on the front. On his wrist is a removable black yarn prayer rope (with simple knots).
For outdoor chores he has a hand-knit black sweater vest with four functional buttons and a matching knit hat. For baking prosphora he also has a black linen apron which has a Velcro closure at the neck and ties at the waist. A large pocket holds a quilted cooking mitt which fits (snugly) on his hand.
The doll and all of his clothing and accessories are original designs.
Height: 18 inches
**Not intended for unsupervised play by children under age 4. Caution: small parts**
Care: I recommend spot cleaning the doll itself as needed, and hand-washing if absolutely necessary. Soak in cool water using a small amount of gentle detergent or baby wash. Gently squeeze out excess water; do not wring or scrub. Lay on a towel to dry for one or more days depending on humidity. There are several good sites online giving explicit directions for cleaning Waldorf dolls and I recommend consulting them if you feel you need to wash him.
The clothing and should likewise be handwashed or washed on the gentle cycle in a mesh bag to prevent loss of small pieces. Lay flat or hang to dry. Do not use bleach. Careful ironing as needed.

This doll is really special. He is even cuter in real life than he looks in photos. He has great accessories and is a fun prayer companion.
