This year was SO much better! It was really easy, This year was SO much better! It was really easy, but there was one CRITICAL step that made all the difference. Directions to dry orange slices: •Slice oranges thinly. Save ends for mushroom caps. •Lay out on cooling racks. •Place in oven on lowest setting (mine is 170°F). •CRACK THE OVEN DOOR SLIGHTLY. •Leave for at least six hours, checking occasionally. (Mine took about 7 hours.) •No need to turn them. They are done when they feel completely dry and not sticky. That’s it! I’m going to string mine but they also look really pretty hung on the tree with a bit of ribbon, wired onto a wreath, or wired into a garland. If you hang them in a window you can enjoy the stained glass effect! #driedorangeslices #handmadechristmas #crunchychristmas #traditionalchristmas

I remember when my younger sisters were still rece I remember when my younger sisters were still receiving dolls for Christmas, and when my oldest girls were small, we would excitedly page through the catalog of a certain doll company, ooing and aahing over the beautiful doll clothes and accessories. Everything was expensive, but they were beautifully made and a welcome relief from the, frankly, ugly dolls and cheaply made clothes widely available. Grandparents gave them dolls here and there and clothing in between, items that are still treasured today. The stories accompanying the dolls were rooted in history, upholding Christian values such as sacrifice, bravery, perseverance, strong families, and hope. The little doll company was eventually purchased by a giant toy company and things began to change. Now they make dolls who are deliberately neither boy nor girl, telling stories designed to pervert and confuse. We, and many others, stopped purchasing from them long ago. The desire for dolls is an eternal one, however, going back thousands of years. Little girls still want to play with dolls. Dolls still need clothes and quilts, and even dolls of their own. Instead of purchasing clothes from faceless, giant overseas companies, clothes which will start falling apart after a few months, consider purchasing doll clothes made one-by-one by people who care about their work. I am one such maker, but there are many others! [Everything you see was handmade by me, with the exception of the vintage 18” doll serving as a model. Yes, even the leather shoes! My fourth daughter turned 12 and wanted a woods bi My fourth daughter turned 12 and wanted a woods birthday theme (no fairies, mushrooms welcome). She wanted a chocolate cake. I usually go for broke on the cake so… More effective chocolate bark could have been made by melting and molding chocolate but she wouldn’t eat it so piped on buttercream it was. The mushrooms were made by squashing marshmallows into caps and dusting them with cocoa powder, also using mini vanilla wafers for mini mushrooms caps (“marshrooms”). I also used halved mini vanilla wafers for the shelf fungus. Ferns were piped on, and candy berries, mint leaves and also chamomile completed the look. It came together better than I expected. The table decorations were done entirely by my third and fifth daughters and they did a beautiful job! We pulled from various parts of the house, some Christmas decorations, and my daughter’s florist skills. Not pictured, the host of houseplants pulled around the table and the decorations on the china hutch, the light fixture, and the windows. #stumpcake #woodstheme

I’ve never been to St. Anthony’s monastery in Ariz I’ve never been to St. Anthony’s monastery in Arizona before, or even to Arizona! It was a wonderful visit and it didn’t take long to adjust to the monastery schedule. I was even able to venerate the relics of my patron saint, St. Anna. I hope very much we can go back one day!
